Collecting info from a variety of sources can lead to information overload. In order to keep information, materials and resources useful, you need to get rid of 'noise'. Newsletter, tweets, alerts that do not add to your knowledge base.
My advice to you - Manual curation - delete + unsubcribe
1. Cancel newsletters
2. Change alerts - add more key words to reduce 'junk'
3. Unfollow unproductive Twitterers
4. Delete RSS feeds
Advice - Keep only sources that are valuable to your classes or your thesis topic.
Create your own Kiosk
There are a number of 'instant newspapers' that collect your selected sources in 1 kiosk
are perhaps the most well known.
Assignment
- Choose a topic - locate blogs and online media that publish articles on the topic
- Choose one of the 'instant newspapers' from the list above + create your own on your selected topic. ***You must use a least 5 different sources***.
- Go to your blog 'layout' - use 'add a gadget' in your blog + add the link to your newspaper in the frame of your blog. ***Example = 'Cool Resources' in this blog.
- In your Twitter account post a Tweet of your newspaper + use #mbanetq in the Tweet
- 5. Go to one of your classmates' blogs and post a comment on their most recent post.
Note: It takes 24 hours to populate the newspaper - set up before the due date.
Monitor Notes:
- Link to a kiosk in the 'gadget' side of each blog - not a post
- 5 sources in the kiosk/newspaper
- Twitter search #mbanetq to see how many folks Tweeted their newspaper link
- Cross post - one comment on someone else's blog
- Comment on Class Blog re:Museum of Me
